Now that we’ve reached this milestone, you might be wondering what to expect on your PC. The new Microsoft Edge provides world class performance with more privacy, more productivity, and more value while you browse. Microsoft Edge is also available on iOS and Android, providing a true cross-platform experience. Today, the new Microsoft Edge is out of preview and ready for download on all supported versions of Windows and macOS and in more than 90 languages. (The current stable version is 89, so that’s still several months away.Microsoft Edge saves you time and helps you focus by delivering a fast and secure way to get things done on the web. And it won’t kick in until Microsoft starts developing Edge 94. This makes tons of sense and seems like the right choice to me. In between major releases, customers choosing the Extended Stable option can expect a biweekly security update with the most important fixes everything else will be delivered on the extended schedule every eight weeks.” “Enterprise customers opting for the Extended Stable option will still get all the great innovation and security from the 4-week cycles, just delivered at a more manageable pace. “The 4-week cadence will be the default experience,” Microsoft notes. And it will introduce a new channel called Extended Stable that will provide a longer, 8-week release cycle. It will move the Edge release channels that are currently on a six-week schedule-Stable, Beta, and Dev-to the new four-week cycle. To balance between the needs of different types of customers, Microsoft will move Edge to a new release cadence similar to that which Google will use. But that is not the case for all customers, particularly our enterprise customers who manage complex environments and must balance delivering new innovations against rigorous planning and testing.” “For many, innovation can’t come fast enough. “As contributors to the Chromium project, we look forward to the new 4-week major release cycle cadence that Google announced, to help deliver that innovation to our customers even faster,” the Microsoft Edge team writes. With Google Chrome moving to a new four-week release cadence, Microsoft says it will offer the same updating schedule for its own web browser.

That brings me back to my weekend conversation with the user of an HP Chromebook x360 14. If your go-to device is mobile, this is really a non-issue but with so many people now working from home, installing Viber on a desktop can be a big productivity boost for tan eams using the messaging app. Sadly, that does not include Chrome OS because there isn’t a web client. In order to use Viber, you will have to install the Android or iPhone application, link your phone number and then, you can install the desktop client on your Mac, PC or Linux device and sync them with a QR Code. That’s not to say Viber isn’t cross-platform. I don’t know the reason for this but it is likely due to the fact that Viber prides itself as the “most secure” messenger on the planet. The one shortfall of Viber is that it does not offer a web-based interface like WhatsApp, Android Messages, Hangouts and the list goes on. You can chat with people on the Viber app or you can make calls that are referred to as “Viber Out” by adding money to your account balance and dialing just as you would with most applications. Where Viber stands out is its ability to make voice calls internationally for quite less than standard phone plans and calling cards. The app itself looks really inviting and it appears to offer similar features to WhatsApp and many other chat apps. What is Viber you ask? Yeah, I wasn’t exactly familiar with it either but over 1 billion people around the globe depend on Rakuten’s messaging platform for chat, calls and even video conferencing. Over the weekend, I received a message from a reader who was desperately trying to get Viber working on his Chromebook.
